How can I pay?
You can pay in cash with Ghana cedis or with Mastercard and Visa once you arrive.
We have not been able to find a solution to enable you to pay fully online. We do take deposits for bookings on our website. Otherwise Paypal does not operate in Ghana and we were unable to find an online payment system with our local Ghana bank that would link to a booking engine.
Do you offer airport pickups?
Yes, we will meet you at the airport and bring you to the hostel, if you let us know in advance. The cost of this service is approximately USD13.00.
At what time can I check In?
Check in for new arrivals is from 3:00 pm. We require to see some form of valid photo ID when you check in – preferably a passport, I.D. card or driving licence. If you arrive before 3:00 pm, you may be able to go straight to the dorm/room, if the bed is ready. We cannot guarantee that. At check-in, guests will receive a room key for access to their room. If you lose your key, we will charge you for a replacement.
At what time must I check out?
Check out is at 12 noon at the latest. Departing guests must remove all their belongings from their room, and check out. However, if you have a late evening flight and want to leave your luggage in the hostel and possibly take a shower before you go, there will be a charge of GHS 15.00.
If you want to check out late, then the latest you can check out is 6pm and you will be charged at 50% of the price for the appropriate bed.
I am travelling with friends, will we all be in the same room?
We will do our best to put friends together in the same room, but we cannot promise it. Book a private room if you want to guarantee you’ll be together.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
If you make a reservation other than through our website, we can only take you at your word at present as we can only take credit card payment until your arrival. So if you do wish to cancel your reservation at any time, we would kindly ask you to notify us by email at firstname.lastname@example.org 24 hours in advance of your arrival date. Thanks!
Will I have to do any chores about the hostel?
Apart from clearing and cleaning up after yourself in the kitchen and bathrooms, we have cleaning staff to make your bed, change sheets and clean the property. Washing up liquid and clothes are provided to help out in the kitchen, and each bathroom has a cloth, mop and bucket to wipe up after you. Obviously you will be living around other people, who may be less tolerant of your mess than you are. We would just ask you to respect your fellow guests.
Is breakfast included in the charge for the bed for the night?
Yes, we provide a help-yourself continental breakfast including home made bread and fresh fruit salad If you have special dietary requirements, you should let us know ahead of time.
Where can I change foreign cash and are there any ATMs nearby?
You can change foreign currency at most banks, although you will get a better exchange rate at a local Forex bureau. Luckily ATMs are quite common now in Accra and there are a couple at bank across Ring Road Central, quite close to the hostel.
How easy is it to find your way round the neighbourhood and buy groceries near ## the hostel?
Our staff can show you where you can buy groceries around the hostel. We can also point you in the direction of a number of supermarkets not far from us. There are also food stalls at the end of our street, where it is possible to buy cheap, tasty take-out meals.
Will there be any refreshments at the hostel when I arrive?
We have a fridge full of cold local beer, coca cola and bottled water. If you are hungry when you arrive, one of our staff will be able to show you where to buy something to eat.
Do you provide towels and bed linen?
Yes, We provide a bath towel. When you arrive, your bed will be made up freshly and if you are staying for more than 3 days, your bedlinen will be refreshed after the 3rd day.
I am staying in Ghana for a while, how easily is it to get hooked up for ### ## mobile phone in Accra?
Local SIM cards are very easy to come by and cost GHS2. Pay-as-you-go scratch cards are available all over the city. Our staff will show you where you can buy one.
Do you have free Wi-Fi at Agoo Hostel?
Yes, we include free Wi-FI throughout the hostel. You will be given the password(s) at check-in. Please be aware that Wi-Fi can be temperamental in Accra and sometimes it works better than other times.
Does the electricity supply ever go off at Agoo Hostel?
Unfortunately, yes, the power can often go off for a number of hours. We do have a back-up generator, which we use in such situations.
Printing, copying and scanning
At some time during their stay with Agoo Hostel, many of our guests want to print, copy or scan documents. We are pleased that we can now accommodate our guests reasonable requests for a small charge.
Do you provide mosquito nets?
We don’t provide mosquito nets, but our windows all have mosquito netting and we spray rooms regularly.
How safe is Accra?
Ghana is generally a very peaceful and stable country. In the Global Peace Index it is ranked above both the United Kingdom and the US. It is the perfect introduction for first time volunteers to Africa. Most visits to Accra are trouble-free, provided sensible precautions are taken, like anywhere else in the world. You should avoid carrying large sums of money or valuables as these may attract unwanted attention. You should exercise vigilance, particularly after dark and avoid traveling around alone. If possible, you should avoid traveling alone in taxis after dark because of attempted robberies.
Are my personal belongings secure in Agoo Hostel?
Secure lockers for laptops and small valuable items are located under each bunk bed. It is the guest’s responsibility to ensure that their personal belongings are secure at all times, and Agoo Hostel accepts no liability for the loss, theft or damage to guests’ property, however sustained or caused. We strongly recommend you bring a padlock to use with your luggage & backpack.
Is smoking permitted?
Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside either of the Agoo Hostel buildings or on the bedroom balconies, but guests may smoke outside or on the back balcony.
Can you accommodate children?
Children of 17 years old and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Do rates include tax?
Rates include VAT of 17.5%
